  Minus half star because in the 2 hours of the movie passed in Portugal, less than 10 words were spoken in portuguese.

  I saw Romancing the Stone for my Romantic Comedy class that I took my final semester as an undergrad. I remember very specifically (mostly because I misused a word that I won't recount here) a discussion that I had in that class about some character who is killed in that film only in service of the story. They existed for no other purpose than the slaughter really.

  I'm sure it wasn't that moment that changed how I was looking at film. I had to be lead to that point, and afterward, what was expressed in a general form then became a fuller, deeper and more detailed philosophy. But I remember that feeling clearly, of distaste toward what this film had…

  Bille August is an interesting filmmaker. He made one absolute classic in the early 1990s, The Best Intentions, based on a script by Ingmar Bergman. It is such a great film, I would recommend anyone checking it out. However, his career has not always been so illustrious. He has made some interesting films, Pelle the Conqueror; and a number of dull ones. But since The Best Intentions I will always make time for his films.

  Having a story that is quite interesting and drama that is quite solid doesn't make this movie could stand out. Actually starting from the opening, this movie feels quite promising. Also with beautiful cinematography and views of the city of Lisbon and Switzerland (That's what i like the most in this movie). But after that, it went flat. It cannot bind the audiences to enjoy or maybe even continue the movie to the end. I didn't find it interesting till the end. Well, there were some points that I could enjoy, tho. Plus, Jeremy Irons is amazing. The other casts also did a great job. But I dunno, it feels like it lost its soul.

  Meine Vorkenntnisse zu NACHTZUG NACH LISSABON (2013) waren eher gering: Ich hatte von der literarischen Vorlage und seiner Verfilmung schon einmal gehört, aber weder das Buch noch den Film zuvor gelesen bzw. gesehen.

  Die Geschichte beruht auf Pascal Merciers‘ gleichnamigen Bestseller.
  Jeremy Irons (LOLITA, 1997) spielt den in Bern lebenden und in sich gekehrten Lehrer Raimund Gregorius, der an einem verregneten Tag beobachtet, wie sich eine junge Frau in die Fluten stürzen will.   Eu entendo completamente a relevância da história que o filme trata mas justamente por tentarem carregar um peso que é a história da ditadura salazarista e dos anti-facistas da revolução de Portugal que o diretor deveria ter mais cuidado com o que ele quer passar, tem diálogos tão rasos e bobos mal da pra acreditar que estou vendo um filme sobre um assunto sério, partes entendiantes no qual se vê uma tentativa falha de tentar transformar em algo "cult" mas que fica apenas no tédio mesmo
