Greg Taylor lands second Rangers tip as Celtic star could smash 119 year barrier (2025)

Taylor will bring his six year stay with the Hoops to an end in the summer

Michael Stewart reckons Rangers should do everything in their power to try and convince Greg Taylor to cross the Old Firm divide when his contract at Celtic runs out at the end of the season.

Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers has already confirmed that the left back will bring his six year spell at Parkhead to a close when his deal expires in the summer, with Kieran Tierney coming in as a direct replacement after sealing his Celtic return on a pre-contract agreement from Arsenal.

Scotland international Taylor has been linked with a move to Croatian league champions Dinamo Zagreb, who played out a goalless draw with Celtic in the Champions League earlier this season and are now managed by Italy 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Cannavaro.

The defender has been touted with a sensational move across the city to Ibrox and pundit Stewart believes Rangers should try and do what no Ibrox team has done since the capture of Robert Campbell 119 years ago by signing a first team player directly from their rivals.

Speaking on the Premier Sports Scottish Football Social Club, he said: "I actually floated this idea two or three weeks ago. From a Rangers perspective, yeah I would.

"I don't know what Greg Taylor will be thinking, but from Rangers perspective, it's a free transfer and he is in the Scotland squad so it's another Scottish player which is a huge asset.

"I don't know whether Greg Taylor would be interested but he's a quality player. But for me he's better than Jefte and he's better than (Ridvan) Yilmaz. So I would do it."

It comes after Ibrox hero Kris Boyd also recently suggested a move for the Scotland star would make sense. Speaking to the Scottish Sun's YouTube channel, he said: "It wouldn’t be the worst one for me for my club to have a little conversation with him. Could he switch sides in Glasgow?

“I know the rivalry between the two clubs but he’s Scottish and he ticks the boxes. You could ask the question.

“Greg has shown for a period of time now how consistent he has been. If he’s not going to be at Celtic, he wants to play regularly."
